I guess I’m going to have to change my blog name – I’m moving to LA.
Scared. Excited. Nervous. Curious. Anxious. Ready – these are a few of the 1,000 feelings running through my head at the time of this writing (and basically every day since I accepted the new role). I’ve always had an inkling to leave the boundaries of the 6ix and live somewhere else, with a few opportunities teasing me along the way (an offer to move to London, England in 2012 that fell through + an offer to move to San Francisco in 2013 that I ended up declining). This time – the right opportunity presented itself at the right time.
For those who do not know what Five Four Clothing (https://www.fivefourclub.com/) is; it’s a Men’s fashion company based in LA that has been around since 2002 but has pivoted its business model a few times. The latest iteration is a subscription based service that allows Men all over the US, Canada and the UK to pay $60 USD per month and receive a box of clothing with 2-4 items that could range from jeans, a jacket, button downs, tee shirts, etc. This year they also launched a new shoe line (www.newrepublicman.com), and have an upcoming accessory line + athletic line coming out. Big tings for 2016. As for my part in building on their success – I’ll be responsible for the strategic direction of all of their social media advertising on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.
This past week is when I finally started to pack up (or even harder – throw away) my life and boy has it been a doozey. From resurfacing horrible photos taken in elementary school, re-reading old letters & cards from my Nana, or reminiscing on past classmates with my good friend Davey, it’s been quite the blast from the past. On top of going through my old stuff, It’s also made me think about what it’s taken to get to this point:
Navigating the rough seas of life, one day at a time.
As someone who is famously impatient, the biggest lesson or advice that I can share is take everything one day at a time since it’s all you can do. Don’t get me wrong – have goals, ambitions and dreams that go beyond the next week. Just realize that accomplishing what you set out to do isn’t going to be done overnight and thus you just need to approach every day with a fresh outlook. Trust me – life’s going to fuck with you once in a while, be ready for that by not being so narrow sighted.
Summer Sixteen is one that’s going down in the books – I’ve met some amazing people, had some crazy adventures, accepted the job of a lifetime, started the process of becoming an American (TBD if this is good or bad – I’ll let Trump decide), and am free of braces after 4 long years. What a time to be alive. It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the year plays out, although it won’t be short of things to look forward to either: a road trip to Cali in early Sept with Robin, settling into my new Beverly Hills condo mid-Sept, friends weddings in the Fall, and a 3 week Thailand trip with Davey in November.
For anyone who has joined me on this journey so far – thank you. Tonight’s going to be a movie.
